The most frequently diagnosed cancers in Spain in 2024 will be those of the colon and rectum (44,294 new cases), followed by breast cancer (36,395) and lung cancer (32,768), according to the estimate of Spanish Society of Oncology based on the type of cancer (excluding skin cancers).
Colon cancer originates in large intestine, which is the final section of the digestive system. It usually starts with small groups of noncancerous (benign) cells called polyps inside the colon. Over time, some of these polyps can develop into colon cancer.
