The Palace Museum of the Forbidden City has launched a special exhibition to promote “zero waste“. The exhibition features sustainable cultural and creative products that are made from recycled materials, Radio China reports.

More than 40 environmentally friendly creative products made from straw, rice husks, tea stalks, mineral water bottles, fallen leaves and branches collected on the museum grounds are on display, Radio China reports.

The exhibition aims to promote waste reduction, recycling and safe disposal, while encouraging the responsible use of waste materials in the creation of sustainable creative products.

The Palace Museum launched a ‘zero waste’ initiative in 2020, focusing on improved waste sorting to reduce the amount of rubbish generated.

Between June 2021 and October 2023, the museum recycled more than 32,000 plastic bottles and turned them into cultural and creative products, the equivalent of reducing carbon emissions by over 930 kilograms.
