Oh Se-hyun, former mayor of Asan, South Chungcheong Province, hinted at running for the by-election to be held on April 2 next year.

Former Mayor Oh held a press conference in the Asan City Hall conference room on the morning of the 10th and announced his position regarding the sentencing of Asan Mayor Park Kyung-gwi, who was sentenced to invalidation of his election.

Mayor Park Gyeong-gwi was sent to trial for raising suspicions of real estate speculation by his opponent, former Asan Mayor Oh Se-hyun’s wife, during the June 1, 2022 local elections.

Asan Mayor Park Kyung-gwi, who was indicted on the crime of publishing false information, was sentenced to a fine of 15 million won on the 8th and had his election invalidated.

Considering that the difference in votes between Mayor Park Kyung-gwi and former Mayor Oh at the time of the election was 1.12% (1,314 votes), the court analyzed that Mayor Park’s spread of false information had a significant impact on the election.

On this day, former Mayor Oh explained, “The court’s ruling is a ruling that shows that justice is alive,” and “It is a retribution for damaging the fair election culture and a private return.”

He said, “Due to the loss of the mayor’s position, the re-election of the mayor of Asan, which will be held on April 2 next year, is an election to elect the mayor for the remaining term of office of about 1 year and 2 months.” “This is a time when it is necessary,” he urged.

At the same time, he said, “I, who have devoted the experience and capabilities I have accumulated so far to establishing Asan’s 100-year plan, will also add to what I have learned over the past two years and four months to create a brighter tomorrow for Asan.”
