Kang Dong-young, former secretary general of the Korean Judo Association (50, current deputy secretary general of the International Sports Federation General Assembly, photo), ran for election as the 39th president of the Korean Judo Association. As a result, the election for the president of the Korea Judo Association was held as a primary for the first time in history.
Candidate Kang said in his declaration of candidacy along with his candidacy registration on the 30th, “I ask that we all gather courage and unite our hearts and minds so that we can clean up old habits and cut off wrong practices in the Korean judo world.” He continued, “Until now, it was a time when a boss was needed to get on the cart called the Korean Judo Association and wave the whip, directing and supervising the direction, but now it is a time when a communicative leader is needed who can present direction and vision from the front and pull the cart along.” He also added:
Candidate Kang’s main pledges are △Establishment of the National Sports Judo Federation △Attracting and establishing the Korea Open International Judo Competition and international training camp △Simplifying the decision-making structure and strengthening accountability through the introduction of the responsible director system △Supporting operating expenses for city and provincial branches and federation secretariat I put my back on it.
Candidate Kang, who joined the Korean Judo Association in 2002, has worked for 23 years and has achieved international achievements such as forming a single North-South team in team competitions, as well as developing a sports human rights manual for judo, obtaining certification for the safety management system for sports events, and serving as a member of the sports organization innovation evaluation working committee, both domestically and internationally. It is evaluated that it has contributed to the development of the Korean Judo Association through various activities.
This election will be held as a contest between Candidate Kang and the current president of the Korea Judo Association, Cho Yong-cheol. The election will be held on January 8th next year.
