At least four people were killed in a Mogadishu hotel occupied since Sunday night by fighters from the jihadist group Al Shabab, a Somali security force official told AFP on Monday.
“The terrorists are locked in a room of the building and the security forces are about to quickly end the operation” against the attackers, added Mohamed Dahir, without specifying who the victims were.
On Sunday night, a police spokesman reported the attack and the rescue of many people.
“A group of al-Shabab fighters attacked a commercial hotel in the Bondhere district and security forces engaged in combat to eliminate them,” national police spokesman Sadik Dudishe said in a statement.
The agent reported that many civilians and officials were rescued from the Villa Rose hotel, a very popular establishment among legislators in a safe area of the capital, close to the office of the presidency.
