Four Colombian soldiers died when their helicopter crashed in the northwest of the country near the border with Panama, according to what the army announced.

The army said in a statement that a UH-60 Black Hawk infantry helicopter was involved in an accident during an air cargo operation towards the Kuti military base in Chocó Province, without specifying the location or circumstances of the incident.

The statement explained that “ground forces immediately went to the scene of the accident in coordination with the Panamanian authorities to conduct search and rescue operations.”

The army added, “Four of our soldiers were found dead at the site, including the pilot and his co-pilot, and three wounded were transported to the town of Apartado (north).”

The statement indicated that an investigation had been opened and a committee of military experts had been sent to the site where the helicopter crashed to “unravel the circumstances” of the accident.
