French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced that “the French Air Force carried out air strikes targeting sites of the terrorist organization ISIS inside Syrian territory.”
LeCorno explained, “The operation took place last Sunday, as part of ongoing efforts to track down members of the terrorist organization and enhance security in the region.”
He stressed that “the French Armed Forces are working in cooperation with their international partners to ensure the dismantling of terrorist networks, which still pose a threat to global security.”
Last week, the US Central Command reported that the terrorist leader of ISIS was killed by an American strike in the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.
The US command said in a statement: “On December 19, US Central Command forces carried out a precise air strike targeting the leader of ISIS, Abu Yusuf, known as Mahmoud, in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in Syria, killing two ISIS members.” “Including Abu Yusuf.”
She added: “This air strike is part of US Central Command’s ongoing commitment, along with partners in the region, to disrupt terrorist efforts to plan, organize, and execute attacks against civilians and military personnel from the United States, our allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond.”
The statement concluded: “The United States, working with allies and partners in the region, will not allow ISIS to exploit the current situation in Syria and reshape itself.” ISIS intends to free more than 8,000 of its agents currently detained in facilities in Syria.
The terrorist organization ISIS announced, in an audio message at the end of November 2022, the killing of its leader, Abu Al-Hassan Al-Hashimi Al-Qurashi, in confrontations on the outskirts of Daraa in southern Syria, and the appointment of the so-called Abu Al-Hussein Al-Qurashi as his successor.
