The evening was not gloomy for everyone. A few seconds after the end of France-Croatia won by the Croats (0-1), a teenager snuck onto the lawn of the Stade de France and threw himself on Karim Benzema, who offered him his jersey.
The scene was filmed by a journalist present in the stands of the Dionysian enclosure. We see a young man running on the field, escaping the security agents and throwing himself into the arms of the striker of the France team, before recovering the jersey stretched out by Karim Benzema. The young man was then escorted out by security guards.
This beautiful image – even if it is forbidden to enter a lawn at the end of a match – is the only one of a complicated evening for the Blues of Didier Deschamps. With their loss to Croatia, the second in four Nations League matches in June, the reigning world champions were knocked out of the Final Four race. They therefore lose their League of Nations title.
