The conditions and the beneficiaries for the free preventive screening of uterine cancer (pap test) are defined by a circular of the Ministry of Health.

Through the electronic systems of the EOPYY, the participation of the Health benefits for the free tests related to cervical cancer will take place.

Diagnostic tests for the prevention or early detection of cervical cancer are carried out as part of the implementation of the “Spyros Doxiadis” program.

Citizens’ participation in the cost of diagnostic tests and medical procedures is zero.
The participants in the action, private doctors and institutions are not entitled to receive in any way additional remuneration from the beneficiaries.
The action is implemented within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0”, with the financing of the European Union.
The total cost of implementing the specific program amounts to 103,195,355.16 Euros and lasts until 30.09.2025.
Beneficiaries are Greek citizens and female citizens of other countries who legally reside in the Greek Territory and meet the following conditions:

a) belong to the age group between twenty one (21) and sixty five (65) years

b) have a Social Security Registration Number (SIN).

c) have not undergone a partial or total hysterectomy due to cancer,

d) have not been diagnosed with cervical cancer type C 53.0, 1, 8, 9;

e) have not been diagnosed with uterine body cancer type C 54.0, C 55.0,

f) have not performed a PAP-TEST examination, during the three (3) calendar years preceding the entry into force of the present,

g) if they belong to the age sub-group between twenty-one (21) and twenty-nine (29) years old, they have not performed an HPV-DNA TEST during the three (3) calendar years preceding the entry into force of this clause,

h) if they belong to the age sub-group between (30) and sixty-five (65) years old, they have not performed an HPV-DNA TEST during the five (5) calendar years preceding the entry into force of this.

Beneficiaries participate in the Action with the automatic issuance of the PAP-TEST or HPV-DNA TEST referral, which is valid for six (6) months from the date of issue.

Beneficiaries receive the referral electronically either via text message (sms) to their mobile phone and/or via email (email) to their email address.

All women, to whom the program is addressed, are informed of their eligibility, throughout the implementation of the Action, during their visit to any public or private Health Care Unit, while general information of the citizens about the Action is achieved through the website of the National Screening Program (SCP), through the website of the Ministry of Health and the EOPYY as well as in any other convenient way.

The test reference bears the description “Preventive examination within the framework of the National Screening Program (EPPE)”, “Cervical cancer screening”, “PAP TEST / HPV-DNA TEST / Colposcopy / Biopsy”.
