During the early hours of today, a drunk driver was captured in an anti-doping operation in El Salvador. Surprisingly, upon being arrested, he made a phone call to his partner with the words: “Don’t be jealous, because in three or four days I will arrive home.” These actions occurred within the framework of a series of operations carried out by the Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT) and the National Civil Police (PNC), which resulted in a total of 24 arrests for dangerous driving nationwide.

The anti-doping controls were carried out at different points in the San Salvador Metropolitan Area during the night of Friday and the early hours of Saturday, with the aim of guaranteeing road safety during the holiday week. One of the control points was located between the Juan Pablo II avenue and Masferrer Norte, with the purpose of identifying risk behaviors and preventing traffic accidents.

According to the authorities, more than 1,200 vehicle controls and more than 5,000 anti-doping tests are scheduled nationwide during this holiday period, in order to remove dangerous drivers from circulation.

The VMT reminded the population of the fines established for non-compliance with traffic regulations: those drivers who exceed 50 milligrams per deciliter of alcohol in exhaled air will receive a fine of $57.14. In addition, those who exceed 100 milligrams will be arrested and will face a judicial process, as well as a road re-education program.

These actions are part of the strategies implemented by the Government of El Salvador to protect the lives of its citizens and guarantee road safety in the country.
