Free tickets stopped, angry students ruckus in Mirpur

The Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa is being held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Thousands of visitors scattered in the gallery. Flawless security outside. But after a while, the sound of commotion was heard through it.

On Monday (October 21) at noon, it was seen on the ground that the angry students were surrounding the ticket booth next to the number 1 gate of the stadium. They were chanting slogans against the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

While searching for the reason, it is known that the students complain about two things. Earlier, free tickets were available in test matches by showing the ID card of the educational institution. This is not happening anymore. The second reason was that even the minimum ticket of 100 rupees was not available. Students complain, asking for extra price.

At one point, the security personnel present with the students started arguing. When the students got angry, army personnel came forward to calm the situation. Later the situation calmed down with their intervention. After hearing the complaints of the students, they contacted the officials of BCB and arranged tickets for the eastern stand worth 100 taka.

Meanwhile, it can be seen that most of the seats in the Eastern Stand are empty. Why tickets do not match? When asked such a question, no one in the booth agreed to speak. However, some outsiders complain that this ticket has gone into the hands of a third party. However, considering the situation, free tickets have been stopped for students. An official related to BCB tickets told RisingBD, “Due to the current situation, free tickets have not been arranged this time.”

Due to security reasons, the gallery has also seen variations. Tickets are given for the lower (lower) seats of any stand including Eastern. The board did not want to take the risk as it was very close to the field.

A student who came to watch the game on condition of anonymity said, ‘Earlier we used to get tickets for free. I can’t get it now. Now tickets are not available even at the counter. Tk 100 ticket is not said once, again Tk 200.’

Meanwhile, the road in front of the main gate of the stadium was closed in the afternoon as well as in the morning. No one is allowed to enter those roads without a ticket.
It is to be noted that this kind of security started due to the agitation surrounding Shakib Al Hasan’s arrival or non-arrival in the country. To prevent any untoward incident, law and order forces have imposed strict measures to control the situation.
