From 2027, France’s Framatome will supply fuel rods for the Paks nuclear power plant. The Ministry of Energy in Budapest announced that a corresponding contract would be concluded on Friday.
State Secretary Attila Steiner spoke about an important step towards strengthening security of supply. The country’s only nuclear power plant accounts for nearly half of domestic electricity generation. In order to preserve this strategic share of the energy mix, the government has set its sights on a second life extension of the reactor units that were brought online four decades ago for 20 years.
Framatome-CEO Bernard Fontana (l.) expressed his delight at being able to participate in the diversification of the fuel supply for the Paks nuclear power plant. With the agreement now finalised, the nuclear facility will be reliably supplied with fuel rods in the long term. “Hungary can count on Framatome!”
In the presence of the Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos (h) the CEO of the operating company MVM PA Zrt., signed the agreement on the Hungarian side Peter János Horváth (M.), and its assistant technology, Paul Toth (r.).
