Regardless of the occasion, it’s worth setting the table simply and using the same items from home.

Good Friday and Easter are two times when many people take the opportunity to gather family and friends and share the meal of the day together. When setting the table, it’s worth investing in special decoration, but how do you do that? O B side spoke with two experts at the table who guarantee that the secret is in simplicity.

Geire Santos de Lima da Silva, aged 47, Abida Meneses Moreira, aged 40 and Kamilla Santos de Lima da Silva, aged 22, are the women behind ‘Tica Mesa Posta’. The company, in addition to providing consultancy on the subject, also works with accessories, utilitarian and decorative items and games.

In conversation with the reporter, they talk about the proposed table setting, how important it is to create this habit regardless of the occasion, in addition to suggesting two examples of how to set the table this Friday and Sunday.

But first, the businesswomen highlight that the habit is not just about pretty dishes and supplasts. “The table is a demonstration of love, you say ‘I love you’ while serving. Serving is loving and that is what our purpose at Tica is. Table is not just about etiquette”, says Abida.

Sharing the same idea, Geire states that the table is also about being together with those who are important. “The purpose is to bring people together, attract family around, restore relationships. When you understand this everything becomes lighter and more fun. Then you don’t get caught up in whether or not you have the items and over time you learn”, he says.

How to set the table – In the store, the businesswomen left two models ready. The first refers to Good Friday and the second to Easter. For those who have never done something similar, they explain that it all starts with the tablecloth or the rail, which is the fabric that is in the center of the dining table running along the entire length.

The piece, according to Abida, is what makes the furniture more attractive. “We usually say not to leave the table ‘naked’ without clothes because it’s not attractive. When you dress the table it ends up sparking interest. So you have to be careful every day to leave the table with a tablecloth, a rail and when it’s time to eat you bring the dishes”, he says.

When setting the table, you don’t need to have ‘refined’ plates and cutlery. The idea is to make use of what you have at home, whether it’s the most used game or those that are collecting dust in the closet. “Even the famous Duralex, if you assemble it, your table will look very beautiful”, says Geire.

The first tip they give to those just starting out is to leave the ‘table dressed’, giving preference to tablecloths in light tones. Without placemats or sousplats on the table, the second step is to bring dishes that can be colored or decorated to create a contrast with the neutral print.

The arrangement of the dishes is defined as the ‘bottom’ of the main meal at the base of the table and the dessert or starter on top. The cutlery, according to Geire, also has a correct way of placing it.

“People always get lost in the arrangement of cutlery, but the knife is always on the right side with the cut facing inwards and the fork on the left side. The tip is that all men’s items are on the left side,” she says. In the case of cutlery, it is worth investing in silver or gold tones to make it easier to combine with other items.

Another valuable tip she gave is the number of glasses on the table. Using the first item does not eliminate the use of the cup. “It’s never too much because, for example, you served the juice, but then the guest asks for water. The glass is dirty, but the glass is clean for you to serve,” she clarifies.

To give an extra touch to the table setting, it’s worth placing a napkin either on the left side of the plate, on top of the dessert plate or between the two. The napkin can be folded or attached to the napkin holder.

These and other tips are present on the table set for this holiday meal. Organized in a simpler way, it was decorated with some bread and a jug of juice, which can also be used for any other drink. “I thought about this late afternoon and early evening supper with bread and grape juice. I placed the cup, the chalice, so the family could have this moment of gratitude”, adds Geire.

The table for the Easter lunch has different details, starting with the ivy with artificial fruits and the cups with golden details. “As it is Resurrection Sunday, it is life that you are celebrating, that is why you have the fruits. It’s a day to celebrate, so gold brings this festive tone”, highlights Abida.

Matching the glasses, the cutlery set is also gold. To top it off, they brought two casseroles to the table. “The casserole dish is a versatile piece that you can use for different types of dishes and the color helps a lot because it is white. You can compose in different ways”, says Geire.

Whether on this holiday or another special date, businesswomen reinforce that the most important thing is to turn the table setting into a daily habit for themselves and other people at home.
