Only six years have passed, but the comparison between the photos of the Basque Finance Council held in October 2018 and that of this Tuesday 2024 shows the revolution that the Basque institutions have undergone in the last provincial/municipal (2023) and regional (2024) elections ), and the growing presence of women in positions of responsibility in these administrations. From two women in 2018 to nine in 2024. And from ten men then to three now.
That revolution is more than evident if you consider the only two that repeat in both snapshots. On the one hand, the deputy general of Álava, Ramiro González. On the other hand, the current head of the regional treasury of Gipuzkoa, Itziar Agirre, appointed this summer after the traumatic death of Jokin Perona. Six years ago, Agirre attended the meeting as deputy finance minister of the Basque Executive, and the deputy from Gipuzkoa was Jabier Larrañaga.
The rest of the participants, 80% of the table, are different from those of 2019, the year before the pandemic. Noel D’Anjou replaced Pedro Azpiazu as Treasury Minister. Eider Mendoza is the representative of Gipuzkoa after the end of the Markel Olano era. In Bizkaia, two new faces. Elixabete Etxanobe as deputy general of the Unai Rementeria; and Itxaso Berrojalbiz, as deputy of the Treasury of José María Iruarrizaga. And in Álava, the head of the Treasury and Finance since 2019 is Itziar Gonzalo de Zuazo, after replacing José Luis Cimiano.
And even the three representatives of Eudel are different from those of 2018 and, what’s more, currently dominated by women. Then Imanol Landa (president of Eudel and mayor of Getxo), Josune Irabien (mayor of Amurrio) and Eneko Maioz (mayor of Orexa), represented Eudel. Currently, Esther Apraiz (president and mayor of Derio), Nagore Alkorta (mayor of Azpeitia) and Natividad López de Munain (mayor of Elburg), have participated in the CVF.
