In recent years, the prices of fruit and vegetables have risen significantly. The trend continues – albeit less strongly than before.
According to figures from the State Statistical Office, the price increase for fruit and vegetables is leveling off. While consumer prices for vegetables rose by an annual average of around 15 percent between 2022 and 2023, the increase between September 2023 and September 2024 was a total of 1.1 percent.

Last year, more than 808,000 tons of vegetables were harvested from an open area of around 26,000 hectares in North Rhine-Westphalia. As the state company IT.NRW announced, this included around 21,000 tons of pumpkins – one percent more than in 2022. Mathematically, this corresponds to an amount of 1.2 kilograms per resident in North Rhine-Westphalia.
