DIG/ Close to 2.5 million m3 in 2010, Gabonese forest production has almost doubled to reach 4.1 million m3 in 2022, according to the Directorate General of Forests.

Significant variations in log production marked the decade in connection with the change of model that took place in Gabon with the log export ban that came into force in June 2010;

• The increase in log production between 2010 and 2022 has had a positive impact on industrial activity in Gabon, whose production, all segments combined, has increased sharply over the decade;

• With the increase in national demand and the increase in industrial wood processing capacity (increasing number of UTBs), the supply of logs has become a recurring problem to the point of constituting a major obstacle to activity within certain UTBs which are not running at full capacity.

okoumé still represents the majority of forest production with an average weight by more than 59% over the last 6 years.

• The proportion of logs delivered to industries located outside the Nkok SEZ represented 67% of national production in 2022 against 75% in 2020. Conversely, that of logs delivered to Nkok increased from 25% to 33%;

• The absence of robust data and institutionalized, standardized and precise monitoring carried out industry by industry outside Nkok does not allow for a more detailed view of log consumption in this segment of activity..
