The Knesset plenum this evening (Wednesday) approved in a preliminary reading a bill that requires government companies and statutory bodies to lead to adequate representation of members of Arab society in the workplace.

Before the vote, the chairman of Torah Judaism, MK Moshe Gafni, spoke, who about a month and a half ago put forward a similar proposal, which seeks to provide adequate representation for ultra-Orthodox society – but then the Bennett-Lapid government opposed. Tonight, when the proposal was for Arab society, the government supported and so the law passed.

“It is impossible to talk about adequate representation and the combination of Arabs and ultra-Orthodox and vote against. There is no such reality,” Gafni attacked coalition members. “We’re in the building voting, and you failed to vote because you voted against! You do not believe in proper representation!”
