The possibility of teachers from Argentina teaching Spanish in Bulgarian schools was discussed by the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, and the Ambassador of Argentina to Bulgaria, H.E. Alejandro Zottner Meyer. This was announced by the press center of the Ministry of Education and Science.
Ambassador Mayer offered to assist in attracting Argentine teachers to Bulgaria in the same way that teachers from Spain come to our language high schools. Currently, a total of 19 Spaniards are teaching their native language to Bulgarian students in 17 schools, it became clear during the meeting. The Ministry of Education and Culture will conduct a survey of schools that are currently looking for native Spanish teachers and, if possible, Argentine teachers may be hired for these positions. The possibilities for attracting Argentine lecturers to higher schools in Bulgaria and developing cooperation between universities from the two countries will be studied separately.
During the meeting, the possible opening of Bulgarian Sunday schools in Argentina and the sending of Bulgarian teachers there was also discussed. There is a very strong Bulgarian community in the country, numbering about 57,000 people, Ambassador Meyer shared. He has already had a meeting with representatives of our diaspora, and this month the governor of the Argentine province of Chaco, where there is also a large Bulgarian community, will arrive in Bulgaria. It is planned that during his visit the need to establish a Bulgarian school there will also be discussed.
The meeting also discussed deepening the partnership between the two countries in the field of science. A fruitful collaboration has already been established in the field of scientific research within the National Program “Polar Research” led by Prof. Hristo Pimpirev and during the conduct of the Antarctic expeditions of Bulgaria.
The head of the consular department at the Argentine embassy, Daniel Kotini, and the directors of the “Science” and “International Cooperation” directorates at the MES Milena Damyanova and Vesselina Ganeva also took part in the meeting.
