Gallo India Youth Games 2023: Tamil Nadu Shines with 98 Medals – Chief Minister M.K. Stalin Proud of the State’s Performance

The 6th Gallo India Youth (under 18 age group) sports tournament started on the 19th at Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated this grand competition. There were 26 types of competitions including Volleyball, Badminton, Cycling, Athletics, Kabaddi, Archery, Swimming, Yoga, Basketball, Shooting and Squash. More than 5000 sportsmen and women from 36 states and union territories participated in this competition and showcased their skills. Apart from Chennai this competition was also held in Coimbatore, Madurai and Trichy.

The Tamil Nadu team, which has been chasing medals in India since the first day, left its mark on the last day as well.

Tamil Nadu 98 medal:

The 13-day sports competition was successfully completed yesterday. Defending champions Maharashtra retained the top spot with a total of 158 medals including 57 gold, 48 silver and 53 bronze. With this, for the 4th time in a row, Maharashtra has bagged the first position.

Tamil Nadu, which hosted the tournament, bagged 38 gold, 21 silver, and 39 bronze medals in a total of 98 medals. This is the Tamil Nadu team’s best performance in the Gallo India Youth Games. Earlier in 2019, Tamil Nadu’s best medal tally was 5th place with 88 medals including 27 gold, 36 silver and 25 bronze in 15 competitions held in Pune. The typo has now been broken.

Athletics – 18 medals including 11 gold

Cycling – 12 medals including 5 gold

Swimming – 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 7 Bronze

Tennis – 4 gold, 2 bronze

Squash -3 gold

Yogasana – 3 gold
