Journalists from Mobilegamer.biz talked with some developers who are partners of the Apple Arcade gaming service and collected information about its main problems, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
First of all, developers complained about the reduction in payments for releases. According to the head of one of the studios, immediately after the launch of Apple Arcade, the platform’s payments were generous and allowed many teams to stay afloat. However, since 2020, fees began to decline and continue to decline to this day.
At the same time, developers are kept in the dark about their potential income, since Apple does not disclose the formula by which royalties are calculated. Also, Apple does not disclose information about plans for the development of the platform and does not even try to change the situation, which leaves the studio in confusion.
According to Mobilegamer.biz interlocutors, Apple Arcade is currently focused on offering users family content on popular franchises. Some of the projects are either free-to-play or service games.
Some developers surveyed believe that Apple will probably close Apple Arcade soon. At the same time, there are also those teams that report Apple’s plans to restart the service in light of the growing popularity of a similar platform from Netflix.
