Gapyeong-gun has begun the restoration of the Gapyeong Bonapsan ~ Swamp Mountain road, which has been disconnected for over 80 years. Expectations are rising at the prospect of the ecological corridor connection project linking Mt. Bonap and Mt. Swamp in Gapyeong-eup, which is being promoted as a long-awaited project for local residents, to be restored after 85 years.

Gapyeong-gun decided to use a bridge (composite ramen bridge) as the development method for connecting the ecological corridor between Bonap Mountain and Swamp Mountain in the area of 91-4 San, Eupnae 8-ri, Gapyeong-eup, which had been cut off for decades due to the construction of roads, and began full-scale construction, with the project scheduled for completion at the end of this year. It was announced on the 25th that it plans to be completed.

Accordingly, about 4.3 billion won in project expenses, including provincial and military expenses, will be invested in this section, and an ecological corridor connection project with a length of 28 m and a width of 15 m will be opened and constructed in the form of an overpass.

Once the project is completed, the county expects that it will restore the value of the ecosystem and increase the diversity of wild animals through the ecological connectivity path that was cut off due to the opening of the road, while providing educational and aesthetic value about the ecosystem to residents.

Previously, after being selected for the Gyeonggi Ecological Garden development project in June 2022, the county has been carrying out administrative procedures such as detailed design service, resident information session, decision on bridge type, selection of specific construction method, Gyeonggi-do contract review, and design stability review.

The two sections of Bonap Mountain and Seopsan Mountain were cut off due to the road and Gyeongchun railway construction projects during the Japanese colonial period in 1914 and 1939, respectively. Later, in 1964, when the Gyeongchun National Road was opened adjacent to the railway, vehicle traffic was significantly reduced, leading to a significant reduction in the scale of the disconnection. has been expanded.

Currently, it is being used for Archipelago Line 14 and the rail bike route, and as its utilization has decreased, local residents have raised the need to restore an ecological corridor connecting the two mountains.

In 2004, projects such as a residents’ signature campaign were promoted, but for various reasons, they did not bear fruit, leaving regrets.

So far, the county has come up with the most reasonable plan by listening to various voices, including economic feasibility, historicity, and opinions of residents and experts, regarding development methods.

A military official said, “It was analyzed that the bridge-type development method is suitable as an ecological corridor due to its excellent safety in the infrastructure, good aesthetics, and good sense of openness at the bottom,” and “We will push ahead with the project without disruption so that residents’ long-awaited projects, such as regular restoration of Gapyeong-eup, can be resolved as soon as possible.” “I’m going out,” he said.

Bonapsan Mountain, where the project is taking place, is the highest peak in Gyeonggi-do and has its roots in Hwaaksan Mountain, the top of the Five Rocks in Gyeonggi Province. Marsh Mountain is the last mountain where the Hwaak Ridge of the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range joins the Bukhan River and is praised by many visitors, including Baeksa Lee Hang-bok and Cheongeum Kim Sang-heon, for its beautiful mountain scenery. There is a super solidarity.
