Gard and Var will be on orange “rain” alert on Friday 25 October, announced Thursday evening Météo-France, which forecasts “an episode of rain and thunderstorms, at times strong, which will occur intermittently until Sunday”.

“A fairly heavy line of rain formed over part of the Cévennes and Piedmont, especially on the Gard side”, specifies in his latest bulletin the weather agency saying it has already done so “Up to 50-80 millimeters of rain was recorded locally in a few hours in the western and northern parts of the department”.

After the truce on Friday morning, the Gard, placed on yellow alert also for “thunderstorms” and “floods”, will experience in the afternoon “a further worsening with thunderstorms affecting the interior of the department and the reliefs”. “Once again, significant accumulations are feared, between 70 and 100 millimeters during the day within the department, locally a little more in the Cévennes”warns Météo-France, which recalls that “ fall on areas weakened by previous rainfall episodes”.

In a press release on Thursday evening, the Gard prefecture invited the population to “extreme vigilance”remembering it “Watercourses can react very quickly in relation to soils that are sometimes already saturated”. In the Var, also yellow due to thunderstorms, stormy rains will occur in the second part of the night from Thursday to Friday on the Var coast and inland and will strengthen until Friday morning.

Accumulations could arrive throughout the day on Friday “50 to 80 millimeters, locally 120 to 150 millimeters inside”writes Météo-France. Last week, the Gard and the Var had already been hit by heavy rains, which had caused exceptional flooding in the central-east of the country.
