Chennai: Around 30 students fell ill and three were admitted to hospital due to a suspected chemical leak on the premises of Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Tiruvottiyur in Chennai city. Police gave this information on Friday. Some students complained of difficulty in breathing and burning sensation in the eyes etc. Many other students complained of nausea. After this there was chaos in the school. A student said that due to difficulty in breathing, some of us had to run out of the class to get fresh air. Even our teachers were having difficulty breathing.

Information has come to light that some students had even become unconscious, who were brought back to consciousness by our teachers. She further explained that she was feeling nauseated. After several students felt suffocated, the school management had to call an ambulance and take them to the hospital. Parents who reached the school also admitted their children to the hospital for treatment, where many children were treated as out-patients. Police said it was not clear whether the chemical leak occurred from the school or the place where the chemical factory is located. Police said that the condition of three students admitted in Stanley Government Medical College Hospital here is said to be stable.
