Gaza: Morocco welcomes the adoption by the Security Council of a resolution calling for a ceasefire, describes it as a “positive step”

Responding to a question on the Kingdom’s position regarding the adoption of the UN resolution, during a press briefing following meetings with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Tanja Fajon , Mr. Bourita indicated that Morocco welcomes this text which calls for an immediate, total and complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the return of the displaced.

And added that Morocco considers this resolution as “a positive step” to stop the war, in harmony with the call of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, President of the Al-Quds Committee, to immediate, total and lasting cessation of hostilities, the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid via all crossing points to Gaza, and the rejection of any population displacement, while considering the Gaza Strip as a part integral part of the territories Palestinians.

The minister affirmed that the resolution is in line with the Vision of His Majesty the King to end a conflict which has lasted too long in the region, in accordance with the two-state solution while respecting the international law and resolutions on international legality, emphasizing that negotiations remain the only way to achieve this.

The Kingdom of Morocco, he said, hopes that all parties comply with the terms of this resolution to put an end to the suffering of civilian populations after eight months of destructive war in Gaza, with disastrous consequences on the humanitarian.

Bourita in this context recalled the position of the Kingdom of Morocco regarding the importance of the proposals presented by the President of the United States of America, Joseph Biden, aimed at promoting the establishment of a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, access for humanitarian aid, protection of civilians, return of displaced people, as well as reconstruction of destroyed areas.
