General Motors (GM) UAW workers at Michigan plant vote down proposed contract – Reuters

United Auto Workers at General Motors’ (GM) Flint assembly plant in Michigan have rejected a proposed new contract with the U.S. automaker, the local chapter announced on Wednesday. A deal did not prove inevitable, adding uncertainty to bargaining for significantly higher costs. At the Flint facility, 51.8% of votes rejected the new agreement.
The proposed agreement carries the potential to increase base wages through April 2028 by 25%, raising the top wage by 33% coupled with estimated cost-of-living adjustments to over $42 an hour. The historic agreement with the Detroit Three has triggered rival automakers with non-unionized workforces to propose similar wage hikes. Japan’s Honda Motor said it planned to increase pay for its production workers in the U.S. The UAW has also informed that Volvo Group-owned Mack Trucks has made its “last, best, and final” offer to striking workers. Voting on the offer has tentatively been scheduled for Wednesday.
