ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia swimming and diving teams concluded their regular season Sunday at the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet, held at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. While the meet served as a final tune-up before the postseason, several Bulldogs posted season-best times and, in one case, secured a crucial NCAA qualifying cut. The focus now shifts to the upcoming NCAA Zone B Diving Championships and, for those who qualify, the national championships in Atlanta later this month.

The weekend’s standout performance came from freshman Hayden Hollingsworth, who demonstrated impressive versatility. Hollingsworth earned an NCAA cut in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing with a personal best time of 52.37 seconds. Earlier in the day, she also achieved a personal best in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking in at 50.42 seconds. These results highlight a promising start to her collegiate career and position her as a swimmer to watch as the championship season approaches.

Freshman Performances Highlight Georgia’s Depth

Hollingsworth wasn’t the only Georgia freshman making waves at the Bulldog Invitational. Mia Jeltema consistently improved her times in the 100-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:14.20 in the preliminary session and then bettering that with a 2:13.85 in the afternoon finals. These improvements demonstrate the team’s growing depth and the potential of its incoming class. Junior Elizabeth Tilt also contributed a season-best time of 50.76 in the 100-yard freestyle, adding to the team’s strong showing in the sprint events.

Sophomore Samantha Rydzewski rounded out the individual highlights, achieving a season-best time of 1:55.85 in the 200-yard backstroke. These individual successes, combined with strong relay performances, underscored the team’s overall progress throughout the season. The Bulldog Invitational provided a valuable opportunity for athletes to refine their skills and build momentum heading into the more competitive championship meets.

Relay Team Finishes Strong

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Tilt teamed up with freshman Marin Clem and seniors Emma Norton and Ieva Maluka to finish with a time of 3:18.55. Relay performances are often critical in championship meets, and this result suggests that Georgia’s relay teams are well-positioned to score valuable points at the NCAA Championships. The collaborative effort showcased the team’s depth and ability to perform under pressure.

Looking Ahead: NCAA Zone B Diving Championships and Beyond

Georgia will now turn its attention to hosting the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium, scheduled to run from Sunday, March 8 through Wednesday, March 11. This event will determine which Georgia divers will advance to the NCAA Championships. Following the Zone B Diving Championships, qualifiers for the NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will be announced on Wednesday, March 4, with men’s qualifiers following on March 11.

The NCAA Women’s Championships are set to begin in Atlanta on Wednesday, March 18, with the men’s championships starting the following week on March 25. The city of Atlanta will once again be a hub for collegiate swimming and diving, providing a home-pool advantage for the Georgia Bulldogs. The team’s performance at the Bulldog Invitational suggests they are well-prepared to compete at the highest level.

The upcoming weeks promise to be pivotal for the Georgia swimming and diving program as they strive for success on the national stage. The dedication and hard perform displayed by the athletes at the Bulldog Invitational provide a solid foundation for a strong postseason run.
