German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will meet today with the new NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Berlin, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The former Dutch prime minister, who took office on October 1, will be received with military honors at the Chancellery as part of his first visit to the German capital in his new capacity.
The main focus of the talks is expected to be on security policy issues in the Euro-Atlantic area, government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said.
NATO is concerned about the potential involvement of North Korean troops in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The White House has reported that up to 8,000 North Korean troops are stationed in western Russia’s Kursk region.
Washington expects these forces to enter combat soon, with the possibility that the personnel of this contingent will grow further.
Russian President Vladimir Putin did not deny the presence of North Korean troops in his country and noted that Ukraine uses servicemen from NATO countries.
