The institute said that an “Embox” infection of the new strain 1b was detected in Germany, which was found abroad, adding that “the risk to the health of the population in Germany is low.” The institute, which did not provide details about the patient and the circumstances of the infection, indicated that it was monitoring the situation “closely”, noting that it would change its recommendations if necessary.
The new epidemic has been infecting Africa for months, and the highest infection numbers have been recorded in the Democratic Congo, Burundi, and Nigeria, and two simultaneous epidemics are occurring, one of which is caused by branch 1 in central Africa, and mainly affecting children, and the other due to the new variant, 1B, infecting adults in another region of Eastern Democratic Congo and neighboring countries.
Last week, the African Union Health Agency confirmed that 42,000 cases of “Imbox” had been recorded in Africa since January, and that around 1,100 people had died as a result of the virus. She warned that the epidemic was on the way to getting “out of control” if the necessary measures were not taken to contain it.
Elsewhere in Europe, cases have been reported in Sweden, and other cases have been recorded in many countries in Asia.
A vaccination campaign was launched at the beginning of October this year in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the country most affected by the virus in the world.
