BERLIN> Germany’s political equations remain unchanged when the Social Democratic Party’s Olaf Scholes comes to power, ending the 16 – year Merkel era. Olaf’s stance on foreign policy, including his meeting with France’s far-right President Emmanuel Macron, suggests that Germany is moving in the right direction.
Olaf’s first foreign trip since taking office as German Chancellor was in France. At a time when immigration issues are causing controversy in Europe on a global scale, Olaf’s victory over the Social Democratic Party’s label has announced that he will work with Macron, the face of radical anti – immigration policies. The leaders declared that there was no difference of opinion and that the Franco-German axis would remain strong. Olaf Scholes is Germany’s ninth chancellor since 1949.
The Social Democratic Party came to power by forming alliances with the neo-liberal Free Democratic Party and the environmentalist Green Party. Scholes was vice chancellor and finance minister in Merkel’s cabinet.
