Message of the Regional Governor of the South Aegean for the 203rd anniversary of March 25, 1821
March 25 is a historical milestone for Hellenism and a national anniversary, which means a lot to the Greeks.
It is a day when we give due Honor and Glory to our heroic ancestors, founders of independent, free Greece.
But also a day when we reflect on our responsibility towards history.
Undoubtedly, an anniversary that inspires in addition to Pride, Hope that what seems impossible, can be possible.
Today, in our time, the challenges for Greece, for the islands of the South Aegean, are different but equally important. Maintaining prosperity, protecting the natural environment and preserving cultural wealth are priorities that must be addressed with determination and dedication.
With the distance given us by the 203 years since the epic of 1821, today must also be a day of Introspection for every Greek woman and every Greek man, which prompts us to reflect “are the modern Greeks worthy of their sacrifice?” but also a day of Commitment towards the future to do the best we can with the Freedom we were given.
