It is recalled that by the decision of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yiannis Oikonomou, three days of mourning were declared for the Greek Police until today, December 29.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the funeral

According to an announcement, the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will also attend the funeral procession. He himself, a few minutes after the announcement of the policeman’s death, sent a condolence message to his family.

“Greece mourns the loss of our hero policeman Giorgos Lyggerides. I stand with respect before his sacrifice, in the hour of duty. But also in the unequal battle he fought, for days, after the cowardly attack against him” he says initially.

Afterwards, the prime minister referred to the perpetrators of the attack saying: “The punishment of Rentis’ killers and the eradication of violence are now a matter of honor for the State and society. A sacred challenge in memory of George to which we will answer together. With power, justice and consistency”.

“To the relatives, friends and colleagues of the lad with the coat of arms, I extend my sincere condolences from the bottom of my heart,” concludes the Prime Minister’s condolence message.

“Immortal”

In the meantime, the radio conversation between his colleagues, at the moment when his death is announced to them, is shocking. The news was transmitted through the center by the head of the service of the Order Restoration Sub-Directorate.

“I hope for all of us to be as brave as George was brave in the great battle he fought all these days. All our actions must now honor our colleague and pay the necessary respect to his memory. We are sure that George is now watching over us from where he is and it is certain because we are members of his family. Hero and immortal” is heard saying the head of the YAT with the platoon members of four platoons who are on duty to say goodbye to Giorgos Lyggeridis with the word “immortal”.
