Giorgos Margaritis: Gambling and the Panagouli murder (Video)

by time news

The guest on the show “MEGA Stories” was George Margaritis on Wednesday night, January 24th.

Together with the journalist Dora Anagnostopoulou, the popular singer started a journey starting from Karaiskaki Square, the place where in 1960 he got off a bus in Trikala at the age of 15 in search of his fortune.

Vassilis Tsitsanis, night, booze and his gambling addiction were revealed in an in-depth interview.

Gambling addiction

For more than 10 years, Giorgos Margaritis faced a serious problem with gambling which, as he himself admitted, “for 10 years he did whatever he wanted with me».

«I had a woe inside me. I got involved with gambling and he did whatever he wanted with me. I found the strength, but after 10 years. It’s not bad to play… But it didn’t let you spread your wings, look at what’s inside you more.

I called the goal in 197. Takis Zoukas played an important role in this. Through his brother we made an appointment with Takis, which happened after four years. The cause was gambling again. I wasn’t consistent with appointments. Many times they told me to go meet so-and-so and I said the time will come».

The Panagouli murder

«This was regular murder»

An unknown incident was narrated by the singer regarding the murder of Alekos Panagoulis. Shortly after the “traffic accident” he himself happened to be at the place where there was the “kavaza” where he was gambling.

«It was May Day 1976. I had finished school in the morning from the shop and like every day I took a taxi and went to… take out my misery. In Omonia. So was that morning. I took the taxi from Glyfada and am getting off. I take Iliopoleos, there is a parking lot there, I look to the left where I had the suitcase, I saw some people gathered, next to the suitcase and there was also a gendarmerie and I tell the taxi driver to stop here. I pass opposite Iliopoleos and go to Vouliagmenis.

And I look and see a car, on a ramp, pushed in and I ask – I was not known then – the gendarmes: “what is it, guys? who is; how did it happen” and one of them says to me “come on, get out of here, we still don’t know who he is, do you want to know?”. Really, I left, I didn’t even go to the cauldron myself. I was in the top ten. The other day I learned from the radios and newspapers that this was Alekos Panagoulis. This was regular murder. I saw what the car looked like… Since Vouliagmenis is going straight, how is it possible for her to turn like that and fall on the ramp?”

The loss of his father

Clearly moved, the singer spoke about the death of his father, which scarred him.

«I will tell you something. The biggest loss for me was my father, but not immediately the pain. After ten years my pain was strong. Why; Because my father didn’t know a father, his father left him in the womb, and I didn’t know my grandfather either, I remembered how he kept saying “what need do you have, you have your father”. This talk…which when I was very young I didn’t take it seriously.

But while I was growing up, I said how many children there are, how many people there are who didn’t meet one of their parents so that the rest of us could understand the pain they have. It is not easy to understand since we did not eat this food. Of course, it’s not the best thing for a person, but that’s what happens.

It was not possible for me to stay in the village any longer because my father could no longer cope with five children, we were left alive because we had also lost a little one when he was five or six years old».
