Girona leads the Spanish Football Championship with 19 points ahead of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona after all having played their respective games on matchday seven.

The seventh round of the Spanish Football League ends this Thursday, September 28th with the game between Osasuna and Atlético de Madrid. However, there is already a surprise in this 2023/2024 season as Girona is the new leader (!)

Title holders FC Barcelona earned a second draw in the Spanish Football League, ceding first placewhile Real Madrid won for their sixth victory, but had suffered their first defeat on matchday six.

FC Barcelona failed to achieve a comeback against Celta de Vigo

In the sixth round, FC Barcelona lost 0-2 at home against Celta de Vigo, before pulling off a comeback in the final minutes and eventually winning 3-2.

This time, in the seventh round, the Catalans failed to turn things around. Losing twice, 1-0 and 2-1, FC Barcelona managed to score a 2-2 draw at Mallorca.

The goals of theBlaugranas‘ were scored by the Spaniard Fermín López and the Brazilian Raphinha, while the Mallorcans’ two goals were scored by Vedat Muriqi, international for Kosovo, and the Spaniard Abdón Prats.

With this draw, FC Barcelona now occupies third place with 17 pointswhile Mallorca is in 15th place with six points.

Real Madrid raises its head after sinking in the derby

Real Madrid, who suffered a heavy 3-1 defeat against Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby, reacted in this seventh round and won 2-0 against Las Palmas.

The Madrid team’s goals were scored by Spaniards Brahim Díaz and Joselu.

Note that Girona is the surprise leader. The Catalan team leads with 19 points, having only conceded one draw in seven games. In the last two rounds, Girona beat Mallorca 5-3 and then won 1-2 when traveling to Villarreal.
