It was supposed to be a wonderful derby night, between two of the best and most interesting teams in Spanish football, Betis and Sevilla. To the chagrin of the teams and most of Spain’s football fans, there was a fan who decided to throw an object, apparently a plastic stick, at Joan Jordan, moments after a wonderful goal by Nabil Pakir from the corner, which set up a 1-1 draw in the 39th minute.
After the incident the game was stopped, the Sevilla players went down to the locker rooms until the referee announced that they would not return to play yesterday (Saturday). The Spanish websites and newspapers did not remain indifferent to the embarrassing case: “Global shame,” one of them read, “What a shame,” another wrote. “Mess in Betis-Sevilla” and “The Sevilla Derby Suspended After Joan Jordan’s Attack” wrote in two other sites.
In the Spanish Marca, they did not like the event, to say the least: “It’s stained again. Too bad. That courage. What helplessness. Sevilla’s derby, the most marvelous, is stained again with the stupidity of a brainless man who does not know how to celebrate a goal without hurting anyone. Plastic stick. “Probably from a flag. It’s not clear if it hurt Joan Jordan very much or slightly, but I’m ashamed that no teammate on the other team took care of his health, asked him to get up, as if nothing had happened here.”
Meanwhile, the actor was taken for tests at the hospital while the object thrower was stopped. There is still no decision regarding the resumption of the game, but it seems that a technical loss to Betis is not on the agenda.
