Gloria-Sophie Burkandt: Söder’s daughter rejected by GNTM

by times news cr

She wanted to convince Heidi Klum of herself. But Markus Söder‘s daughter Gloria-Sophie Burkandt didn’t make it through to the next round of “Germany’s Next Top Model“.

Every year, model candidates try their luck in the casting show “Germany’s Next Top Model” (GNTM). Gloria-Sophie Burkandt also once wanted to shine in front of Heidi Klum, as she now reveals. But the 1.85 meter tall daughter of Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder was sorted out.

She reported on the experience to the “Bild” newspaper at the Blue Panther – TV & Streaming Award in Munich. Accordingly, the now 25-year-old applied to GNTM in 2015 at the age of 16 with a photo and also had to demonstrate a run for the ProSieben show’s production team.

Apparently the opportunity was good: “My school in Nuremberg was right next to the casting location, a hotel at the main train station.” She sneaked out of school during her lunch break and took part in a preliminary round.

“I looked so disheveled and was so nervous,” she remembers and reports: “I got rejected.” But that probably wasn’t because she wasn’t styled enough: “I was too tall for her. Back then the maximum height was 1.83 meters.”

She would have liked to take part in Klum’s show at the time, but in retrospect she was happy about the cancellation: “If I had taken part in GNTM, I probably wouldn’t have ended up at Elite,” explains Burkandt, who now works at the renowned “Elite Model Agency” in New York is under contract.

Heidi Klum was not present at the casting in Nuremberg at the time, and to this day Burkandt has not met the supermodel, who was also present at the awards ceremony in Munich. “But she is a great role model. She does what she wants, even if she offends. There should be more women like that,” says Burkandt.
