Gokseong-gun will establish and operate a joint incense burner to commemorate the victims of the Jeju Air plane accident. Gokseong-gun announced that it will operate a joint incense burner to commemorate the victims of the Jeju Air passenger plane accident from Tuesday, December 31 to Saturday, January 4.

In order for the bereaved family and the public to express their condolences, in addition to the government joint incense burner, the military also set up an incense burner. The incense burner was installed in the first floor lobby of the Gokseong-gun Leisure and Culture Center (in front of Dongak Art Hall) and is scheduled to operate from 09:00 to 18:00.

A military official said, “Depending on the mourning period, we plan to postpone non-urgent events, and even if we have to hold them, we will do our best not to disrupt the mourning atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Gokseong-gun announced that it will continue to operate the knee replacement surgery cost support project, which started as a new project last year, in 2025.

It is said that there are a total of 45 applicants in 2024, and a total of 61 payments have been completed. As a result of the business satisfaction survey, most of them were very satisfied and said that the financial burden was reduced by support for surgery costs and that it was helpful in recovering physical function.

In 2025, the total number of surgical expenses support cases will be 60, and it may close early when the budget is exhausted, and it will be done on a first-come, first-served basis.

The project to support the cost of knee replacement surgery is to improve the quality of life by alleviating the pain of the elderly who suffer from pain due to degenerative knee arthritis or who cannot undergo surgery for economic reasons. The scope of support for surgical expenses is up to 1.2 million won for one knee (2.4 million won for both sides) for examination, medical, and surgical expenses corresponding to the out-of-pocket expenses.

Those eligible for support are those who meet all three requirements. Those with a disease that meets the criteria for recognition of ‘artificial joint replacement surgery (knee joint)’ for health insurance benefits, those aged 60 or older with an address in Gokseong as of the date of application and who have been residing in Gokseong for more than one year, and those with an income below 150% of the median income based on National Health Insurance premiums for the relevant year. Additionally, those who receive support from other laws, private organizations, or actual medical expenses are excluded.

If you wish to apply, you can apply by visiting each town office or Gokseong-gun Health and Medical Center with a medical certificate or opinion issued by a medical institution within the past month. After applying, the person in charge will review the application in detail and individually provide a ‘decision notice’.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you undergo surgery before applying, you cannot receive benefits. You must apply before surgery and undergo the surgery within 3 months of receiving the final notification that you are eligible for support.

A military official said, “We hope that the knee replacement surgery cost support project will help the elderly in their daily lives by helping them march 10,000 steps toward a healthy 100-year life, reducing the burden of surgery costs, and relieving mobility inconveniences.”
