GoldenEye 007 cheat codes will not work on Xbox
GoldenEye 007 is now available on both Nintendo Switch and Xbox, but it turns out that cheats work a little differently in the two versions.
N64 players will remember things like DK Mode, Paintball Mode, Aztec and Egyptian Secret Levels, which are unlocked by completing missions within difficulty and time limits. Alternatively, you can unlock it by entering cheat codes.
However, while these cheat codes still work on the Switch version, they are not compatible with the Xbox version.
The news was confirmed to Polygon from an Xbox spokesperson: “This version of GoldenEye 007 is, for the most part, as players know and love from the 1997 version. Especially for cheaters, they can be unlocked by completing levels in the required time, instead of using button codes used.”
However, while the icons are present in the Switch version, they are a bit tricky to operate due to the translation of N64 inputs into Switch controls. or return to that speed.
This is another way the two versions differ, since online multiplayer is only on Switch.
Even though I spent a lot of hours in Golden Eye as a kid, I wasn’t aware of these cheat codes. Luckily I got the game second hand (thanks grandma) which had a save file with all the cheats unlocked. Unfortunately, this particular hack will not work this time.
The game is available on both consoles as of today, though there have been several controversies surrounding the pause menu music on the Switch version. But fear not — those iconic bras are back.
