North Florida Men’s Basketball Suffers Road Defeat Against No. 11 Gonzaga

The North Florida Ospreys faced a challenging contest, falling to No. 11 Gonzaga 109-58 at McCarthey Athletic Center on Sunday night. This marked the third time this season North Florida has battled a ranked opponent during its non-conference schedule.

First-Half Struggles Define Ospreys’ Performance

Gonzaga established a dominant lead early, punctuated by a significant scoring run. After a competitive start that saw Devin Hines score the initial four points for North Florida and Kent Jackson add a quick jumper, the Ospreys found themselves trailing 34-22 at the under-eight media timeout. Gonzaga then surged ahead with a decisive 20-0 run, extending their advantage to 53-28 by halftime. Kamrin Oriol led North Florida with nine points in the first half, connecting on 3 of 6 attempts from beyond the arc.

Cady and Jackson Lead Offensive Efforts for North Florida

Despite the final score, several Ospreys showcased strong individual performances. Freshman guard/forward Trey Cady continued his impressive form, reaching double figures for the third consecutive game with a team-high 14 points. He shot 5-for-10 from the field and 2-for-3 from three-point range, adding three rebounds in 24 minutes of play. Senior guard Kamrin Oriol contributed 11 points in 33 minutes, extending his streak of scoring 10 or more points to eight of nine games this season.

Sophomore guard Kent Jackson also added 11 points and a career-high six rebounds in 28 minutes, rounding out the Ospreys with players in double figures. Cady added nine points in the second half, finishing 3-for-5 from the field and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free-throw line.

Team Effort and Upcoming Matchup

North Florida demonstrated a collaborative offensive approach, assisting on 12 of their 20 field goals. Notably, all 11 players on the Ospreys roster saw action in the game. Gonzaga ultimately outscored North Florida 56-30 in the second half, securing the 109-58 victory.

The Ospreys will look to rebound as they travel to Dayton, Ohio, to face Dayton on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. at UD Arena.
