“Good!” – ARD commentary celebrates price shock for oil and gas – domestic politics

by time news

“It’s there, the price shock. That’s good! ”This is how ARD journalist Detlef Flintz’s controversial commentary on the topic of the day begins on Tuesday evening.

Immediately afterwards, the lecturer in consumer journalism at the Cologne School of Journalism claims: “Because we can only get global warming under control if oil and gas become noticeably more expensive”.

The 63-year-old seems to adopt the argumentation of the climate fanatics of “Extinction Rebellion”, who do not believe that humans can fight climate change with innovative new technologies, but have to change their behavior immediately and radically at the expense of consumption.

Flintz literally: “More wind turbines and solar energy. We cannot wait that long and should be happy that we are FORCED to change consumption and production. “

Regarding the radical change, the ARD man explains that “now the markets dictate the pace and no longer our much too timid policy”. In doing so, he seems to forget that it is not the mechanisms of the free market that are currently driving up prices, but those of Russia’s quasi-monopoly on the German oil and gas market. Quite a few see the Kremlin’s deliberate policy behind the shortages. A regime that has about as much to do with climate protection as it supports freedom of expression in the largest country in the world.

It’s hard to believe: The public service journalist compares the attempt to push raw material prices down again in Germany or to make more raw materials available in Germany with a “junkie” who does not want to give up his drug.

Instead, Flintz calls for “a restructuring of our social system” in order to cushion the consequences of raw material poverty. To do this, “the rich simply have to get a little poorer and, in return, the poor get a little richer” …

While Flintz denies the state and politics any competence on the subject of climate, he calls for more state and political intervention to radically rebuild the social system in Germany in advance of climate change. This should already initiate the current coalition negotiations.

Violent reactions on Twitter

No wonder that Flintz’s comment posted on Twitter met with violent reactions.

“How much money would we save if we reduced public broadcasting to just one TV and one radio station? ‘Junkies’? Seriously? ”Commented the media lawyer, for example Christian Conrad the opinion piece.

Even Manuel Ostermann, Federal Chairman of the German Police Union DPolG, commented on the ARD tweet. He wrote: “I’ll put it this way. You need strong nerves here. There are good reasons why many people are turning away from public service broadcasting. “

“Under-complex solutions to over-complex problems from the point of view of 10,000 € per month,” comments the staff council member of the Berlin Charité, Alexander Eichholtz, the statements of the head of the WDR program group economics and law.
