This week, the Illustrious Official College of Physicians of Madrid (ICOMEM) made the decision that Cuban doctors will not have to present the certificate of non-disqualification to register in the European country.

This is due to the difficulties that health professionals in Cuba face in obtaining this document, which is currently not being issued on the island, as reported by the Spanish organization.

Dr. Manuel Martínez Selles, president of the institution, was in charge of exposing the difficulties to the president of the Association of Cuban Doctors, Guillermo Ponce, and doctors Lita Saransig and Liseth Camacho, members of the Cuban organization.

During the meeting and in the absence of a response, the College of Physicians made the decision not to request the certificate and allow Cuban doctors to join the ICOMEN with their approved degree, undoubtedly news that makes their path easier. to many when practicing their profession in Spain as long as they decide so.

However, the fact that Cuban doctors can register in Spain does not solve all the problems that Cuban doctors face in Spain.

As ICOMEN said, doctors do not need their certificate of non-disqualification, but they must have their titles approved, and this is where one of the big problems lies, since when processing this process the delay is long, becoming in an obstacle in Spain and which has caused them to go out to protest on two occasions, the most recent being carried out by more than 150 doctors organized in the Cuban Homologations Movement in Spain and with the support of the Association of Cuban Doctors. This protest occurred on September 25 in front of the Congress of Deputies in Madrid.

The delay in the homologation of degrees is a great obstacle and even more so for Cuban professionals, given that they may lose their legal immigration status in Spain.
