The Government of President Nayib Bukele is committed to strengthening sports as a tool for the development of the country, which allows El Salvador to consolidate itself as a host of outstanding international events. On this occasion, the Surf City El Salvador ISA World Masters Surfing Championship 2024 is organized, an event that brings together the masters of this discipline.
During this championship, which will take place from October 18 to 24, more than 90 highly experienced surfers will compete, coming from more than 20 countries. The Salvadoran representation is in charge of Salvador Morales, who will defend the title in the 40+ category (master); Eva Gavidia, in the female 40+ category (master); Jaime Delgado in men’s 50+ (grand master) and Stanley Hernández in men’s 60+ (kahuna).
“This is the country with the best straight waves and the best coffee in the world. It is incredible to see your faces and meet again in our country. Through surfing we are connecting with our destinations and with our coffee, demonstrating the quality we have as Salvadorans,” said the head of MITUR El Salvador, Morena Valdez.
The waves of El Sunzal will be challenged by thirteen former medalists, led by the only surfer to win gold in the ISA open junior and masters categories, Tom Curren; the 2012 world masters champion, Rochelle Ballard; 2013 kahunas world champion Mike Latronic; 2010 masters title winner Heather Clark; and 2010 kahunas world champion Rod Baldwin.
“Surfing is more than a sport, it is a lifestyle that connects with our communities and the environment, and that is what we are looking for as an administration,” added the official.
The Government of President Bukele continues working to position the country internationally and boost the economy through sports tourism. Recently, the XXI Codicader Games El Salvador 2024, the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023, as well as the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships, recently held in Surf City, took place.
