Thanks to the implementation of effective social programs, with a direct impact on the quality of life of citizens, Governor Alfonso Durazo has managed to position Sonora as the first place among the entities of the northern border, and the second at the national level, in social mobility.
The Social Mobility Traffic Light in Mexico, developed by the Espinosa Yglesias Studies Center (CEEY) based on data from the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE) of the INEGI, gives a rating of 51.4% at the national level, being the second highest in the country.
With these results, Sonora consolidates itself as a national benchmark by improving the conditions that allow its inhabitants to aspire to a better future, reflecting the effectiveness of public policies aligned with the comprehensive development of the population.
“This progress reflects the impact of transformative public policies that have brought opportunities to those who need them most. With social programs such as educational scholarships and access to social security, we provide equal opportunities and build a promising future,” said the governor.
In terms of poverty and extreme poverty, the Ministry of Welfare has promoted, between 2021 and November 2024, the Mano con Mano program, with an investment of 399 million 994 thousand 170 pesos, directly benefiting 53 thousand 844 people.
In addition, programs have been developed such as Las Jefas Self-Managers of Social Transformation and I Gender Inclusion, initiatives that promote economic empowerment through productive support and accompaniment to overcome current shortcomings. Both programs have received an investment of 29 million 763 thousand 982 pesos, directly benefiting 6 thousand 692 Sonorans.
According to the latest update from CONEVAL, the population living in poverty in Sonora decreased from 29.9% in 2020 to 21.7% in 2022, a decrease of 8.2 percentage points, which represents that 245,999 people stopped living in poverty . Likewise, extreme poverty was reduced from 3.5% to 1.7% in the same period, which means that 53,800 people overcame this condition.
