The EC gold is Bullen’s third. She also came top in the 58- and 57-kilogram classes in 2017 and 2020 respectively. Last year she had to settle for silver in the 62-kilogram class.

She also has two medals in the WC. She has gold in the 59-kilogram class and a bronze in the 62-kilogram class, both from 2022.

Germany’s Niemesch was seeded third in the championship in Romania. The final starts cautiously where neither duelist would take big chances. However, it was Bullen who had a small advantage and obtained the first three points.

She then took two more points and led 5-0 with one minute left. The German girl reduced four times, but Bullen eventually won 5-4. Bullen was thus able to celebrate his third EC gold, the first in the 62-kilogram class.

Bullen began her championship by outclassing Azerbaijani Birgul Soltanova 14-5 in the round of 16 final. She then followed it up with a 12-2 win over home hope Amina Roxana Capezan in the quarter-finals.

Both matches were ultimately won by fall.

In the semi-final she won 6-3 over Veranika Ivanova and thus secured a place in the final. Belarusian Ivanova is participating as a neutral athlete during the championship as a result of sanctions related to the war in Ukraine.
