Athens announced that more than 230 migrants were arriving in Greece by boat within two days, via a new route from eastern Libya.
She noted that about half of these migrants came through a new route from eastern Libya, which is longer and more dangerous than the most common crossing routes from Türkiye.
The Greek Coast Guard said, “Yesterday, Friday, 75 migrants who left eastern Libya were rescued from an ill-treated boat south of the island of Crete.”
The arrival of the migrants comes at a time when Greece is preparing for a possible increase in the flow of migrants due to developments in the Middle East.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said more than 3,500 migrants have entered Crete so far this year.
