Gunpo City Picture Book Dream Maru won the grand prize in the completion category (Minister of Environment Award) at the 2024 Korea Remodeling Architecture Competition and was honored with the gold medal in the use approval category at the 29th Gyeonggi Province Architectural Culture Awards.

The Korea Remodeling Architecture Competition, hosted by the Korea Remodeling Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Environment, is designed to open the future of new Korean architecture in this era by illuminating the infinite possibilities of buildings that are recreated with new functions. It received high scores from the judges for its combination of original design and eco-friendly remodeling.

In addition, the Gyeonggi-do Architectural Culture Award Use Approval Category, hosted by the Gyeonggi Architectural Culture Festival Promotion Committee and organized by the Korean Institute of Architects and Gyeonggi-do, is a competition that awards designers, constructors, and building owners who have built buildings with excellent cultural value in Gyeonggi-do. Picture Book Dream Maru is a competition for children and children. It was highly recognized for being designed as a space where all generations, including adults, can communicate and enjoy books and art.

This award-winning work will be displayed at the Gyeonggi Art Museum during the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Architecture Culture Festival’ held from October 5th to 8th.

Picture Book Dream Maru has a total floor area of ​​3,821.66㎡, 2 floors underground and 1 floor above ground, and is equipped with facilities such as an exhibition room, storage, performance hall, upper park, and cafe. It was completed in August 2022 and is a place where the artistic value and culture of ‘Korean creative picture books’ are displayed. The Lachivium system, which has the functions of a library, archives, and museum, was built for citizens to enjoy and opened in September 2023.

In particular, this place, which utilized a drainage ditch that had been neglected for about 30 years, blends naturally with the surrounding landscape with the architectural concept of ’emptying water and filling with light’. Traces of drainage basins remain here and there.
