Gunpo Green Senior Welfare Center (Director Choi Soo-jae) celebrated the 9th anniversary of the opening of Gunpo Green Senior Welfare Center on October 16th by holding the Gunpo Silver Song Festival in collaboration with Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital and Dental Hospital at the open plaza of the welfare center with about 1,500 local residents and local seniors. It was held successfully.
Starting in 2016, the Gunpo Silver Song Festival, now in its 9th year, is an event created jointly by Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital (Director Ha Dae-ho), the Anglican Church of Korea Yuji Foundation’s Gunpo Evergreen Senior Welfare Center (Director Choi Soo-jae), and SK Broadband, and the Evergreen Senior Welfare Center opens every year. In commemoration of this, we are contributing to the spread of a new senior culture by holding a silver culture festival led by senior citizens.
On this day, participation applications were received from seniors over 60 years old living (or working) in Gunpo City, and 10 finalists selected through a 7 to 1 preliminary competition competed, demonstrating their individual skills. Broadcaster Cho Young-gu’s hosting and singers Kang Jin, Kang Yu-jin, and Yang Ki-woong’s celebratory performances further heightened the enthusiasm of the music festival.
After a heated contest, the Grand Prize went to Kim Gwang-jin (Purple Postcard), the Grand Prize went to Lee Heung-kwon (Love Comes in the Rain), the Excellence Prize went to Kim Soon-ja (The Vow that Averted), and the Popularity Award went to Yoo Sang-sang (The Ugly Man). The prizes included a local gift certificate and a health checkup voucher for Wonkwang University Sanbon Hospital, and all winners received local gift certificates as the grand prize, excellence prize, popularity prize, and participation prize.
Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho, who attended the event, said, “I hope that cultural festivals for seniors’ enjoyable leisure activities will continue to be revitalized, and I hope that the Gunpo Silver Song Festival will continue to live on as a representative cultural event.”
Kim Min-ae (Boheung Electric), chair of the Gunpo Silver Song Festival Promotion Committee, said, “We are grateful to the local community, sponsors, and volunteers who supported the song festival, which is being created with the elderly as the protagonist, in both material and spiritual ways.”
Welfare Center Director Choi Soo-jae announced the purpose, saying, “We want to create an open festival with the community through song and establish the image of an enterprising senior who takes on challenges.”
