‘Shibu’, the protagonist of Minnal Murali, is a character who gets as much or as much applause as the hero. The character was played by Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram. When Netflix’s direct release of the film made waves, the main question on the minds of the audience was whether the film would have a sequel (Minnal Murali 2). The producer and Basil Joseph had said that there would be a second part and that discussions were underway. Now Guru Somasundaram is answering the question whether his character Shibu will get a chance in this film. Guru’s response was in an interview with Asianet News.

“Like everyone else, I’m hoping that Lightning will have a sequel, but I do not know if it’s going to happen. I’m thinking about what I will do with the sequel and what my character’s role will be. But it’s up to Basil Joseph to decide. So please ask Basil this question.” Says Guru Somasundaram. Producer Sofia Paul said in an interview that the sequel to the film is likely to be in 3D. “The reception the audience has given us is a license to take the franchise to the next level. Big things are on our minds. There will probably be an announcement next month,” Sofia Paul said in an interview with The Federal. However, Basil Joseph told IE Malayalam that the second part is likely to come but it has not been officially announced.

However, in an interview with Asianet News, Guru Somasundaram said that he did not expect such a reception for his villainous character. He says Shibu’s body language, including the script and improvisation during the shooting. “Basil had said earlier that he was not an ordinary villain, but had an emotional background. Basil first told him the story of the film by listening to the already recorded background music. He was afraid of how the character would be portrayed. It was then that he started learning Malayalam. I joined them a few days before it started. It was during this time that I got closer to Tovino. Lightning Murali is a team work, ”says Guru.

He describes the physical and emotional crises he faced during filming: “My face makeup was three hours at the climax, 5 to 8 pm makeup, then shooting from 8am to 5am the next day. I had 12 hours of work in a row for 20-30 days, then. The fight sequence, the thunder alone lasted 40-45 days. The physical challenge was all this. Guru Somasundaram says that during his ten years of theatrical career before coming to cinema, he was very excited to play different visually appealing characters.

The wait for ‘Shibu”s romance has caught the attention of movie lovers. The Guru says of his own life romances: “There have been one-sided romances in life. I have fallen in love with a lot of people but they did not know it. I wrote my first love letter in the seventh grade. Guru’s next Malayalam film is Burrows directed by Mohanlal. Another film ‘Chattambi’ has been completed. The actor hopes that he will get notable opportunities from the applause given by Minnal Murali and from Malayalam, Tamil and other languages.
