The Hamas movement is ready to participate in the exchange of hostages held in the Gaza Strip for Palestinian prisoners in light of the adoption by the UN Security Council (SC) of a resolution on a temporary ceasefire in the enclave.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, the corresponding statement was published in the official Telegram channel of the movement.

“Hamas welcomes the UN Security Council’s call for an immediate truce and emphasizes the need to implement a permanent ceasefire, withdraw all Israeli troops from Gaza and return displaced persons to their places of residence. We confirm that we are ready to immediately participate in a prisoner exchange that will lead to the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners,” the document says. Hamas also called on the Security Council to “put pressure on Israel to comply with the adopted ceasefire resolution and end the war,” and thanked the countries that took part in the preparation of the document “for their support of the Palestinian people.”

The movement noted that it is necessary to ensure Palestinians freedom of movement in Gaza and access to humanitarian assistance in all areas of the Palestinian enclave. Hamas called for the provision of special equipment that would clear the rubble in order to find and bury all the dead.
