Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.
Harbhajan Singh last played for India in 2016. The last match he played in the IPL was in 2021 for Kolkata Knight Riders.
He has taken 417 wickets in 103 Test matches so far. He has taken 269 wickets in 236 ODIs.
What did Harbhajan say?
“Any good thing will come to an end. Today I get the answer from the game that gave me everything in my life.” Announcing his retirement, Harbhajan Singh said.
“Heartfelt thanks. Very much indebted.”
In a video posted on YouTube, he said, “You will be forced to make difficult decisions in your life and move on.”
“I’ve been thinking for the last few years to make this announcement. But I’ve been waiting for the right moment for it.”
“In many ways I’m already retired from cricket but have not been able to make an official announcement.”
“I have not played cricket continuously for some time. I had to be with the Kolkata Knight Riders. So I spent the IPL with them in 2021. But then I made up my mind to retire,” said Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan Singh played three matches for Kolkata in April this year but took no wickets. But those are the matches he has played after 2019.
Harbhajan took 400 wickets
He first made his debut for India in 1998. Harbhajan’s first wicket in international cricket was taken by Australian Craig Blavet.
He is the 14th highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 417 wickets. He is also the second highest wicket-taker after Anil Kumble, Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin.
He was part of the Indian team that won the 2011 Over 50 Cricket World Cup. He took 9 wickets in that tournament. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup.
He is the fifth best bowler in IPL history. He has taken 150 wickets in 163 matches played so far.
Harbhajan Singh was part of the three-time trophy-winning Mumbai team and the 2018 trophy-winning Chennai team.
