The leader of ISIS, Abu al-Hassan al-Hashmi al-Quraishi, blew himself up along with some of his operatives, after the forces of the “Free Syrian Army” surrounded them in the Syrian town of Jasim, as reported this morning (Thursday) by the Reuters news agency. Last night, the organization stated that Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Kurash was appointed as his replacement.

Al-Quraishi’s real name and picture have not been released by the Islamic State “for security reasons”. According to one source, his real name is Juma Awad al-Badri, and he is the older brother of the organization’s first caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Abu Hassan was announced as the new leader of the organization in an audio message published on March 10, 2022 in the official media of the Islamic State.
